MT Højgaard uses location-based time planning
When we move from schedules in MS Project to Area-based planning in Vico Office, we cut an average of 20% of the time, because we get a much better overview, can remove the holes, optimize with the executives and get a better building rhythm.
NCC uses the Schedule Planner for planning and tracking
Very good and clear view on the schedule as well as on the locations. Tracking and forecasting also work as a management tool.
At Bravida, we work with Vico Office
At Bravida, we work with Vico Office, where it is used to make volume extracts when revising the projects. In this way, with the location breakdown, we can keep track of where changes have occurred in the piece number – and the extract is, therefore, also used as documentation tool. Furthermore, we must start using the Document Controller for the registration of changes to floor plans and the 3D building models. So, we catch the changes before we send the production drawings over to the construction site. The management asked me to implement BIM at Bravida. I knew Vico Office from earlier and had positive experience with it. The choice therefore naturally fell on it, when we had to choose a BIM software. We got a few days teaching from Exigo, to make sure we got off to a good start.
Location-based planning is the only right one
Enemærke & Petersen a/s is renovating 57 blocks of flats in the Vapnagaard building, Helsingør, a building project considered one of the largest renovation projects in Denmark. A project of this kind requires a good flow and a stable casting, which guarantees a good quality and a good economy. This overview is created when using Vico Office, which is also essential for predicting the impact of changes in the project. I do not think I could make the same overview without using location-based planning. The planning method and the use of the Vico Office is in my opinion the only right one, if you want to create an overview and create a flow in the building production.
An overview of the right quantities can affect whether we win the construction project
“In larger construction projects, a project is often advertised with indicative quantities. In the case of incorrect quantities in the tender documents, the risk lies with us as a contractor and can be very expensive in the execution (…). An overview of the right quantities can affect whether we win the tender or not. Based on the right quantities, we can prepare a precise price without having to worry about unnecessary quantity risks in the execution.”
The Vico Schedule Planner is a very powerful tool, also in addition to Gantt
“The program makes it much easier for me to create a good rhythm in the process, and I get a really good overview of the craftsmen. I use the Schedule Planner internally as an analysis tool and send Gantt views to the craftsmen. They can switch between the cyclogram and the timeline diagram in the program. By planning with the Schedule Planner, I can document, among other things, the subcontractors that they can save staff and thus achieve a better price. The follow-up module is a powerful visual tool. I enter “actual work” into the program and immediately get a visual view of the consequences of a subcontractor exceeding the schedule. At the meetings it is easy to communicate. I think the Vico Schedule Planner is a very powerful tool, also next to Gantt. I get an overview of unfortunate planned tasks and cast and can correct myself in time. I can read it off directly in the bottom line.”
A better working environment between the craftsmen
“In Aalborg, we are facing a major renovation of apartments, where we will try the location based scheduling. The method provides an accurate overview of the workflow, collisions and not least blank areas. It has been my experience that there is a better working environment between craftsmen when defining a plan for each work area at a given time. So there is money for everyone to save. The implementation of LBS is part of our Lean strategy.”
Egil Rasmussen in Taulov introduces location-based planning for all projects
“The course (in location based scheduling) was really good. Also for the colleagues who have never seen a location based scheduling. Everyone is convinced that the method makes sense. We now introduce the method in all our construction projects. In my opinion, location-based scheduling in combination with the Last Planner is the best way to run a schedule.”
New hospital and new psychiatry Bisbebjerg
“In the end, it is our responsibility as a contractor to ensure that the material sent in the tender is clear and free from collision. If quantities from the 3D model need to be the basis for budgets (5D), material purchases, and schedules (4D), it is crucial that the ICT agreements are adhered to in order for the project to be projected correctly. ”
It makes everyday life easier
“I see great benefits in being able to optimize our schedules and get a better flow in the project. We get a better idea of where empty sites are that can be exploited. We can better find collisions in the schedule and plan out of them. This makes everyday life easier for us because we do not have to stop suddenly because something collides.”
The new University Hospital in Aarhus (DNU) carries out collision checks on parts of the project material to ensure buildability
“There is no doubt that buildable project material is extremely important in terms of cost-effectiveness, time and quality.”
BIM/VDC will be deployed in the new super hospital in Aalborg
“With such large projects, it quickly cost millions of dollars as the schedule shifts, so the costs of using this method quickly become savings.
Now I work structured with quantities
“Now I work with quantities in a structured way and extract them from 3D models in Vico Office. I also learned how others deal with quantities. ” “I use tips from the course daily. I can easily recognize tricks in Vico Office. Once you’ve created a structure, you can quickly pull out quantities – much faster than with Revit. ”
It’s easy to see the value in it
“When you can do a job in Vico Office in two hours, which would usually take two weeks, it is very easy to see the value in it. I just have to press a button and I get all the information I need, instead of sitting down and finding them in a floor plan. ”
